Embrace dialogue, VC urges NANS

Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Prof. Isaac Adewole, has stressed the need for students to engage school authorities and governments in dialogue on issues.

Adewole said this during the presentation of an award of credence to him in his office by the National Association of Nigerian Students on Wednesday.

The award, according to NANS, is a mark of his fatherly approach to issues and problem-solving ability.

He said, “My appeal is for students to remain credible and constructive in their conduct. It is important for students to know what they are doing; what they want and how to present their demands in a way that they will be taken serious.

“As leaders, we must offer alternative platforms as critical stakeholders. We should know that students are critical to academic environment and therefore, must be appreciated.

“If there were no students in the universities, we won’t have the universities. Without the students this university will only be a research institute.

“As students you are idealists but we are realists. You are quick to act but we are slow because we take our time. We, therefore, need you to keep us on our toes even as we reason deeply before acting.”
