FG to use $2.2m PHCN stashed funds to pay workers

Minister of State for Power, Architect Darius Ishaku, has said that the Federal Government will take from the $2.2million of PHCN stashed in Barclays Bank of London, United Kingdom to pay the entitlement of the company's workers. Architect Ishaku who spoke in Lagos said the discovery of the $2.2million is a welcome development.
"The discovery of the PHCN fund stashed in London is a welcome development. We can draw on those funds to ensure quick resolution of labour issues in the Power Holding Company of Nigeria," he said.The National Assembly also said that it will ensure that the fund is returned to Nigeria and used to effect changes in the power sector. Chairman, House Committee on Power,Patrick Ikhariale, who also spoke, said the National Assembly will not wait for the funds to develop wings. The committee's chairman, who was represented by Abike Dabiri Erewa, said stashing of the funds outside the shores of the country, "is a sad commentary on the nation's power sector". "It is wicked and sick to keep such money outside the shores of the country when the sector is ailing. We will ensure that it is not swept under the carpet," she said.
