ONITSHA – Houses of former Water Transport Minister, Prince John
Emeka, and ex-Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr Chinedu Emeka, were
among the more than 500 buildings submerged by flood at Umueze Anam in
Anambra West Local Government Area last weekend.
This came as Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, yesterday shut
its Atani campus indefinitely, following continuous flooding of the
campus which destroyed many buildings and vital documents.
When Vanguard visited the place yesterday, more than 500 houses, in
addition to about 5000 houses earlier submerged by flood, were covered
by water as victims who were able to secure few of their personal
effects were seen at Anam bridge looking helpless.
The victims said they were stranded and had no place to go, except
government came to their aid by providing them a refugee camp.
Speaking to Vanguard on telephone, the former minister said it was
unfortunate that his people would be victims of flooding and called on
the federal government to quickly come to the rescue of his people.
